So , a new owner says… give it a service , so we have a start point. Shouldn’t need much he says , i’ve only done 5-600 miles since i got it . Dropped the oil out and took off the sump… oil filter dated 2012 , thick black sludge in the sump , a drain washer that has been used more than once is cut off of the drain bolt. Double gaskets on the rocker covers ? and valves so very tight , carb balance a mile off , and mixture screws set at 2 turns out not the 3 1/2 turns out the engine wants .
Run it down the road for an MOT , tester can’t get it out of gear , passes with flying colours .
does your oil come out like this ?
this is oil with maybe 10% water in it . Probably caused by lots of short journeys , where the drive box doesn’t get hot enough to make the water evaporate off .
solution , change you oil more frequently , open out the hole in the vent at the breather .
When you change it , try and do it hot , just after a ride is best , leave it to drain , overnight if you can .
Then refill to the correct level .
You may need to do this twice in quick succession , to get all the affected oil out.
Your drive box is an expensive bit of engineering , oil changes are very cheap by comparison .

it would seem that , customer did an oil change 2500 mls ago , and the oil has gone somewhere else …
rear output bearing has failed .
gearbox is so damaged it isn’t worth fixing .
Spada , well that was what it started as ! lovely exhaust wrap , right over the clamps i need to undo . Frame all newly re-finished , now to fix the oil leak from the RMS.
Nice , but i don’t think i would want to ride it in the dirt tho’ .

You don’t have to go to an authorized dealer . Provided the service is done to the standard the factory set ( not hard ) using genuine parts ( to support the factory ) the service book is filled in , all the right oils are used , and all the items on the maintenance schedule are completed .
There is a piece of E.U. law that allows you to do this . It was designed to stop the monopoly of franchised dealers/importers .
This is an alarm removed in 15 mins from a V7 . Fitted by a Datatool Dealer . Bike came to a halt , because it was so badly fitted . i don’t know any alarm fitter who would have done it like this , it was embarrassingly bad . Have spoken to Datatool who want it back , so they can see what has been done to it .
there is a wire to sense that the ignition has been switched on ….the wire was poked into the ignition live …it is supposed to be soldered in .
Hopefully a new unit is on it’s way , and a letter will be sent to the fitting dealer .

broken exhaust collector box , needed welding .
here is what happens… next put bike on the bench , remove fairing panels, remove header pipes …deal with exhaust studs, deal with exhaust clamps to coll. box ,remove silencer, strap bike to bench , jack the bike up, chock rear wheel ( for a bit of height ) remove centre stand, 4 hours later collector box in your hand ! ….take to welders.
